What is Pediatric Pulmonology?

Pediatric pulmonology focuses on the evaluation and treatment of children with breathing and lung issues. Depending on their needs, your child will receive a customized treatment plan to help manage a range of conditions from asthma to more complex respiratory disorders.

Lung & Respiratory Conditions We Treat

We treat both common and complex conditions.

Conditions we treat:

  • Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis
  • Apnea
  • Chronic cough
  • Congenital abnormalities of airway and lung development, such as tracheobronchomalacia and laryngomalacia
  • Congenital lung diseases
  • Dyspnea on exertion
  • Empyema and pleural effusion
  • Hypersensitivity pneumonitis
  • Lung diseases of premature infants, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia
  • Lung nodules/cavitary lesions
  • Pneumothorax/pneumomediastinum
  • Primary ciliary dyskinesia
  • Pulmonary complications due to aspiration
  • Rare lung diseases, including interstitial lung disease and bronchiolitis obliterans
  • Recurrent respiratory infections and pneumonia
  • Respiratory conditions associated with neuromuscular diseases, such as duchenne muscular dystrophy and nemaline rod myopathy
  • Respiratory failure and ventilator dependency
  • Sleep-disordered breathing, such as snoring, central and obstructive sleep apnea, sleep-related hypoventilation and upper airway resistance syndrome

  • Pulmonary complications associated with Trisomy 21, Trisomy 18, Prader-Willi syndrome, Pierre Robin syndrome, Treacher Collins syndrome, Crouzon syndrome and Rett syndrome

Our pediatric home ventilation program offers support for children with complex respiratory needs so they can thrive in the comfort of their own home. As one of the largest programs in central Illinois, we’re here to support you and your child through education and hands-on help for managing long-term ventilation at home.
