As a hospital volunteer in Peoria, you’ll help create a welcoming, supportive environment at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center. Our diverse volunteer opportunities allow you to choose something based on your interests while helping meet the needs of patients, their loved ones and care teams. As a volunteer, you’ll join a team of Mission Partners passionate about serving with the greatest care and love.
This volunteer helps make a patient’s hospital stay a more pleasant experience by providing personal attention in an unhurried manner. You’ll help relieve the nursing staff by performing small tasks and provide real bedside interaction with patients.
These tasks can include passing trays or water, providing a warm blanket, caring for flowers and plants, answering the phone, reading at patients’ bedsides, stocking supplies and light cleaning.
Patient support volunteers should be self-motivated, enjoy meeting new people and communicate well with diverse populations.
No direct patient care is required.
Note: We do not coordinate job shadowing, physician shadowing or research opportunities.
This volunteer welcomes patients and visitors, and escorts them to the appropriate locations via walking or wheelchair transport.
You may provide assistance with answering questions, providing directions or discharging patients from their room to the parking deck.
In addition, you must be able to walk long distances, push a wheelchair and be pleasant and courteous.
This volunteer will assist department staff with clerical responsibilities in order to enhance the efficiency of the office.
Clerical assistance may include answering phones, sorting and filing records, assembling packets, copying, working on bulletin boards and data entry. Volunteers are required to be detail-oriented, willing to learn and professional.

In order to ensure the most rewarding experience, we ask that our volunteers make a commitment of 100 hours.
There is no set timeframe to complete the 100 hours, allowing you to volunteer at a pace that works best for your schedule.
Volunteers are asked to serve one consistent day per week in the same area and shift. This helps create a reliable and meaningful experience for both you and the patients you support.
No prior experience is required. We provide training and support to help you feel confident in your role. All you need is a willingness to serve others and a positive attitude.
