Air Force Nurse Corp Scholarship Program
- What we offer:
- Full ride scholarships to include fees, and books for students that have an MSN and are pursuing their DNP.
- Monthly stipend to offset living expenses while attending school ($2,600)
- We offer the following scholarship programs Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, Midwife, Family Nurse Practitioner, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. For this fiscal year we are only offering scholarships for, Family Nurse Practitioner, and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
- These scholarships are year for year commitment. So, if a 3-year scholarship is used, then 3 years of active duty will be the obligation the student will serve in the Air Force as a fully qualified NP after they earn their DNP.
- Annually there will be at least 2 boards. One in July with an application cut off of June, and one in December with an application cut off of November. Students will need at least 2-3 months to put together an application.

Due to the generosity of individuals and businesses, Institutional and Private College of Nursing Scholarships/Loans are available to undergraduate and graduate students at Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing. Many are listed below. Additional Scholarship/Loan Funds may also be considered. These Scholarships are available only to students currently enrolled at Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing. Current students will be notified when applications are available online. Current Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing Students only need to complete one application to be considered for all eligible scholarships. Deadline is April each year.

Ada Oetgen Memorial Scholarship
Established to honor Ada Oetgen, a 1945 graduate, a valued faculty member who played an integral part in Saint Francis diploma program transition to abachelor's degree program in the 1980's, and a strong student advocate until her retirement in 1994.
Criteria: Enrolled full time, good academic standing, financial need.
Angela E. (Mattingly) Hank Endowed Scholarship
As a 1944 Cum Laude graduate from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing, Angela (Mattingly) Hank worked at St. Francis Hospital, private duty nursing and geriatric nursing until her retirement in 1985. She ministered to her ailing husband until his death in 1997. She continued to volunteer her nursing services in the community until she passed away in 2006. This scholarship was created in loving memory by her eight children. It is intended to help recipients reach their goal of becoming a Registered Nurse, so that they too can have the opportunities of a life long career in nursing and helping others.
Criteria: Enrolled full or part time in undergraduate BSN program, Preference given to min 3.0 GPA, Financial Need (the following criteria will be considered if there are multiple equally qualified applicants - Graduate of Henry Senachwine High School, Resident of Marshall or Putnam county, working single parent).
Barbara L. Adams, Barbara G. Tanner-Handley & Robbie L Tanner-Haugens Endowed Scholarship
The Barbara G. Tanner-Handley (Class of 1940) and Robbie L. Tanner-Haugens (Class of 1944) Endowed Scholarship was started by Barbara Adams, a member of the Class of 1975. This scholarship is in honor of her mother and aunt who were also alumni of the School of Nursing.
Criteria: Enrolled full or part time in undergraduate BSN program, Preference given to min 2.0 GPA
Carolee A. Farris Endowed Scholarship
Carolee graduated from the Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1961. She was so proud of her 23 years of service to the Sisters and the mission of OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. Her professional career included time as a staff nurse, GI Lab nurse, Patient Relations, Transport, Surgery Hostess, and finally as a private duty nurse with Nurses Caring for People. In 2009, she received the Ruby Cealey Distinguished Alumni Award for demonstrating caring, professionalism, leadership, community service and contributions to the profession. Carolee was so fortunate and proud to receive a $500 scholarship to attend nursing school. We, her family, are also proud to reward a deserving student a scholarship in our Mom’s name.

Chuck Tolly Memorial Scholarship
Established by his family, in loving memory to Chuck. Chuck was hospitalized for four months battling cancer. The majority of that time was spent in critical care units. The family was very grateful for the consistently excellent and compassionate nursing care her received. It truly made a difference to all of us! This scholarship was established to enable nursing students to peruse a critical care nursing career.
Criteria: Full-time enrolled BSN students, Preference given to min 3.0 GPA, must be interested in pursuing a career in critical care.
Dewitt Community of Caregivers Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Phillis Dewitt. The Dewitt family cared for over 100 foster children since 1985 and have provided permanent homes for 10. Having lived in foster care, Phillis knows first-hand the obstacles often faced by those who have gone through the foster care system and understands that it takes a community of caregivers to help the vulnerable. Many friends and family members helped ease the challenges of raising a large evolving family. This scholarship is established to help ease the burden and raise awareness of the value of becoming part of a community of caregivers responsible for helping others in times of crises.
Criteria: Full time BSN student, Financial Need, good academic standing, must show a commitment to being part of a community of caregiver and to help those in need, Priority to student touched in some way by Foster Care.
Dr. Patricia Stockert Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. Patricia Stockert Endowed Scholarship was started by Dr. Stockert upon her retirement, to help students realize their dream of becoming a professional or advanced practice nurse. Dr. Stockert's career in nursing spanned 43 years at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center, with 41 of those years at Saint Francis School and College of Nursing. She started at the School as a faculty and served her last 8 years as President of the College. Nursing education is Dr. Stockert's passion.
Criteria: Enrolled full time in undergraduate or graduate program.
Dr. Rita Endowed Scholarship
Established by Peter Fischbach and family in honor of Dr. Rita Fischbach. Dr. Fischbach served on the College Board from 1995 – 2004. She served as President in her final term. Dr. Fischbach was a long-time faculty and administrator at Illinois Central College. Dr. Fischbach’s daughter, Anne, was a 1992 graduate of the College of Nursing.
Criteria: Full-time enrolled BSN students, Preference given to min 3.0 GPA, must complete pre-nursing courses at ICC.
Dr. Roswell G. Daniels Endowed Scholarship

Earl and Miriam Swords Endowment
This endowment was created out of the generosity of Earl and Miriam Swords to financially assist students to meet their goal of becoming a Registered Nurse.
Criteria: Full-time enrollment, minimum 3.0 GPA, preference may be given to those with financial need.
Heart of Illinois United Way Power of the Purse Endowed Scholarship
Established by the Heart of Illinois United Way through their program, Power of the Purse. This scholarship is set up to assist low-income women within the Heart of Illinois United Way region.
Criteria: Full-time enrollment BSN student, minimum 3.0 GPA, preference may be given to those with financial need, must reside in one of these counties Marshall, Peoria, Putnam, Stark, Tazwell or Woodford.
Kaye Kaylor Foss Endowed Scholarship
The Kaye Kaylor Foss Endowed Scholarship was started by an anonymous donor in memory of Kaye Kaylor, a 1965 graduate of the School of Nursing. Kaye was tragically killed shortly after her graduation and marriage.
Criteria: Full-time enrolled BSN student
"Living the Dream" Brian Alexander Endowed Scholarship
As a 1993 graduate of Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing, Brian Alexander was a critical care nurse in Medical ICU until his tragic death at age 44. He had previously worked in Dietary, Admitting & Bed Control before achieving his goal of graduating from the College of Nursing. When asked how he was doing, his inevitable reply would be "Living the dream!" This scholarship defines the very essence of Brian Alexander and how he would want to assist another potential Registered Nurse to "Live the Dream".
Criteria: OSF employee, Enrolled minimum of 6 semester hours or more in BSN or RN-BSN program, Min 2.0 GPA, FAFSA Completion Required, priority to those with financial need.
Mary Ann C. Knell and Rose M. Crabill Endowed Memorial Scholarship
Established initially by Mary Ann and Dennis Knell in honor of Rose M. Crabill, Mary Ann’s mother a 1934 graduate of the School of Nursing. Upon Mary Ann’s death, the scholarship was renamed in honor of Mary Ann Knell and Rose Crabill. Mary Ann was a member of the College Board from 2010 – 2014.
Criteria: Full-time enrolled BSN student.
Paul Estes Endowed Scholarship
Established by Paul Estes, attorney with Hinshaw and Culbertson in Peoria. Mr. Estes was a member of the College Board from 1998 – 2007, serving as Vice-Chairperson and then Chairperson of the Board in his second and third term.
Criteria: Enrolled full or part time in undergraduate or graduate program.
Philip L. Graves & Carol Kenney Graves Endowed Scholarship
This endowed scholarship was established to honor wife, Carol Kenney Graves and in recognition of her spirit of giving and compassions particularly for those who experienced the difficult struggle to carry on as a single parent.
Criteria: Single parent with custody of children, enrolled minimum of 6 semester hours or more, min 2.0 GPA, preference to those with financial need
Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing Scholarship Endowment in Honor of Ensign Anne Fischbach
Established by Peter and Rita Fischbach to honor their daughter Ensign Anne Fischbach Buttoph. Anne was a 1992 graduate of the College of Nursing. Upon graduation, Anne served as a Navy Nurse for 6 years. She was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Washington and at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. While she was at Bethesda, she was a member of the Medical Evaluation and Treatment Unit designated to provide care to the President and Vice-President along with their families.
Criteria: Full-time enrolled BSN student.
Terri O'Hern Render/MaryJane O'Hern Scholarship
Terri O'Hern Render was an enthusiastic life-long learner who adapted to a variety of roles and challenges. Despite adversity, she brought joy to others with her energy and humor. This scholarship is a tribute to Terri and the time she spent teaching at Saint Francis School of Nursing while her husband served in the Vietnam War as well as to her mother who wanted to help students with this scholarship in Terri's memory.
Criteria: Full-time enrollment, FAFSA Completion Required.
Tony Dewitt "Keep On Dancing" Endowed Scholarship
Established by Dr. Phillis Dewitt in loving memory of her husband Tony Dewitt. He was a great example of positive living and often repeated the quote “I get up, I walk, I fall down, meanwhile I keep dancing.” He modeled that quote for the entire 12 years he suffered with cancer. He was always positive and encouraging to those around him. He was cared for by many wonderful nurses who shared his humor, listened to his stories and truly made a difference. He encouraged and uplifted his friends, his family, his co-workers and his community.
Criteria: Fulltime BSN students, Financial Need, Priority to student who has overcome a challenging hardship.
Carmella Knoblauch-Kapraun Endowed Scholarship
Established by her children, in loving memory and tribute to Carmella’s life of caring and giving to others.
Criteria: good academic standing, financial need.
Dr. Roswell G. Daniels Endowed Scholarship
Roswell Daniels entered Hamilton College in Clinton, New York, in June of 1942, for two years, and then joined the Army Special Training program to study medicine. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Rochester School of Medicine at Rochester, New York, in March of 1947. His internship was at Bellevue Hospital in New York, New York, and his residency in internal medicine was at Brooklyn Hospital in Brooklyn, New York, from 1947 through 1950. In 1960, he received a D.P.H. in occupational medicine from University of Pittsburgh. He held medical licenses in New York, Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Illinois. He was on the medical staff of OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois, and faithfully attended Pediatric, Internal Medicine and Neurology Grand Rounds during his retirement. He was a member of Central Illinois Agency on Aging Board of Directors, serving as president and treasurer, at various times from 1994 to 2010. He served for nine years as a board member for Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing, retiring in 2015.
Gail A. Mills Endowed Scholarship
Gail A. Mills (O’Bryan) graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1977. The majority of her professional career was dedicated to in-vitro fertilization and fertility, where she assisted couples with realizing the families of their dreams. She will always be grateful to the school for the outstanding education and for the scholarship that she received which guaranteed her a job in Labor & Delivery upon graduation. Gail wants to “pay it forward” by helping other students reach their goals of becoming registered nurses. “To be a fellow worker with God is the highest aspiration of which we can conceive man capable.” — Florence Nightingale

Julie was provided financial assistance during her years at St Francis School of Nursing (that is what it was called while she attended). Without that financial assistance, it would have been very difficult for Julie to complete her studies and so she would like to pay it forward.

Cooper Family Leadership Scholarship
This scholarship was established by the Cooper family in honor of faculty member, Paulette Archer's Doctoral accomplishment and in memory of mother, father and sister who have passed away.
Criteria: Must serve in a leadership role at the College as a Senator, member of the Senate Executive Board, Student Nurses Association, member of the Student Nurses Association Executive Board, Students Offering Support, Residence Assistant or representative of a faculty committee including the Graduate Committee. Must show consistent involvement in the leadership role. Must have at least one semester remaining in the nursing program. Must be registered for the Fall semester.
Jamie Hansen Memorial Scholarship
Mary Ann Perona generously donated funds for an ongoing scholarship in memory of her daughter, Jamie Hansen. Jamie’s aunt, Elizabeth Klieber, was a 1976 graduate of the School of Nursing.

Loren and Dr. Margaret Swanson Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Loren and Dr. Margaret Swanson in honor of Margaret’s mother, June Sandberg, RN, BSN, a dedicated nursing faculty member in the Quad Cities. Margaret served on the Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing board for 18 years, including nine years as a board chair. She has spent her career supporting students in health care and education. As the founding director of the Respiratory Therapy Program at Illinois Central College and later vice president of academic affairs and provost, Dr. Swanson has proven she cares deeply about helping students succeed in their nursing journeys.
SFMC-CON Alumni Scholarship
This scholarship is provided through donations from Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing Alumni Association. It is open to graduate students who are active members of the Alumni association or BSN students with family members who are alumni.
Criteria: Applicant or their family member must be an alumni of the School of Nursing.
Tari L. Cruse Nursing Memorial Scholarship
The Tari L. Cruse Nursing Memorial Scholarship was established in memory of Tari Louise Cruse as a tribute to her dedication, hard work and perseverance. She struggled with being a single parent. And she struggled to complete her nursing degree. But she overcame her many struggles and she persevered. She will be remembered as a nurse who made a permanent impact on those for whom she cared. Tari was known by her patients as a devoted, loving caretaker who loved her role as a nurse.
Criteria: Full-time enrollment, single parent.
Tau Omicron Honor Society Scholarship
This Scholarship was established for members of Tau Omicron chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society at Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing.
Criteria:Full-time enrollment, must be a member of Tau Omicron, dues must be paid and must be enrolled for the next semester.
William D. Martin Memorial Scholarship
Established by Kimberly Martin Pearson (class of 1984) and family in loving memory of their father and with gratitude for the nurses who make a difference in the lives of the patients and families they touch.
Criteria: BSN Student, Full-time, good academic standing, financial need.
Yvonne Shields Memorial Scholarship
Yvonne was a member of the Saint Francis Hospital School of Nursing Class 1951.Yvonne spent her 40 years professional nursing career providing care in the Peoria and Illinois Valley areas.
Criteria: BSN Student, full-time, good academic standing.
Mrs. Carol Nigro Scholarship
Mrs. Carol Nigro graduated from St Francis Hospital School of Nursing in 1958 and was a peds nurse.
Criteria: Full-time student, 3.0 or higher GPA

Timothy D. Martin Annual Memorial Scholarship
Timothy "Tim" D. Martin, 50, of Morton passed away after a valiant two-year battle with sarcoma. Tim was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending time in the Rocky Mountains. He enjoyed fishing in his kayak and biking. His sister Kimberly Martin Pearson is a graduate of the School of Nursing (class of 1984) .

Dr. Janice Boundy Scholarship
Dr. Jan Boundy is a graduate from Saint Francis Hospital School of Nuring. She was also a faculty member and the Dean of the Graduate program and is now reitired.
Dr. Boundy is a role model, mentor, innovator and leader in nursing education at Saint Francis School of Nursing. Over her course of 54 years of teaching she has taught and inspired thousands of students. She developed her career from staff nurse to being the Dean of the Graduate Program. Dr. Boundy has been a key member in the growth of St. Francis School of Nursing now College of Nursing. She was part of the transition team that developed and implemented the BSN Nursing Program in the 1980's at the College. She was instrumental in the creation of the graduate program in 2001and it's transition to offering an on-line program to students across the country. In 2009 she helped to develop Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree as well. Dr. Boundy has gone on to consult with other schools of nursing across the country and as been a program evaluator and Panel Review member for the Accreditation Commission in Education in Nursing. Many of her students tell stories of Dr. Boundy and how this special lady has made them better nurses.
