Pre-Operative Tour

Help your child feel more comfortable before their surgery at OSF HealthCare Children's Hospital of Illinois. Attend our free pre-operative tour. This hands-on experience helps your child feel more comfortable with the hospital and reduces anxiety before surgery.

What is a pre-operative tour?

A pre-operative tour, or pre-op tour, is a guided visit to OSF Children’s Hospital. It’s designed to help your child get familiar with the hospital and what to expect on the day of surgery.

What to Expect at Your Surgical Preparation Tour

You and your child will visit key areas like check-in, waiting rooms and recovery. Our team will explain the surgical preparation process in a way kids can understand, which will help them feel safe, calm and ready.

During your pre-surgical tour, you and your child will get:

  • Answers to your questions in a relaxed setting
  • Tips to prepare your home
  • To see the equipment and spaces
  • A walkthrough of each step of the surgery process

Tours last 30-45 minutes and are led by child life specialists who are specially trained to support your child through medical and surgical experiences.
